Volunteering – a resolution that’s much more fun than dieting!
New Year’s celebrations often focus on personal goals and fulfillment, but the start of a new year is also a great time to get more involved in community efforts and service projects. A recent survey found that 59 percent of Americans plan to volunteer in 2010 – what a great resolution! Volunteering gives you an opportunity to change lives, including your own.
Since you are on the Me-One website, we assume that you have an interest in our cause. If that’s the case, we invite you to join our enthusiastic group of volunteers! The Me-One Foundation has events going on throughout the year: Our Basic Urban Kitchen Dinner in February, a “Run for the Me-One” (date to be determined) our Tee’d off at Cancer Golf Tournament in the fall and, of course, Camp Challenge in June. There are all sorts of ways to get involved. Me-One volunteers would tell you that there are people who pay thousands of dollars to try to achieve the same benefits that active volunteers get, most of which stem from the emotional happiness and internal well being that come from being part of something so much bigger than its parts. We’re not sure who gets more out of our Camp Challenge – the campers or the volunteers! All of us leave knowing that we connected with others and made a difference. Oh yeah, plus we have a great time! Happy New Year!
